Upcoming Workshops

Bicycle Commuting and Basic Bicycle Maintenance. Saturday, June 22, 2024, 9 AM to noon. (Rain date Saturday, June 29).

Interested in commuting to work or running weekend errands on your bike?

Come join Biking Brookline for a workshop on bicycle commuting and basic maintenance.

Workshop Description:

We will dive into topics related to commuting by bicycle and caring for your ride.

We'll cover fixing-up an old bike or buying a new one, what to look for in a commuter bike, and necessary and unnecessary accessories.

We'll talk about issues of safety and comfort such as what to wear, picking a route, most common mishaps to avoid, and adjusting your bike.

You'll also learn how to do your own preventive maintenance, change a flat tire (and why you should rarely need to do this), tune-up brakes, and maintain your drive-train.

Leave with a list of essentials to put in your tool kit and feeling ready for the road!

The class will be partially outdoors in a covered garage. No bicycle is necessary for the class, but you may bring your bike to practice the hands-on parts of the course on your own bike.

Course Instructor:

Emily Jacobsen, our workshop instructor, is Biking Brookline’s Vice President, a member of Brookline's Bicycle Advisory Committee, and a long-time bicycle commuter with experience working in a community bicycle repair shop in Montréal.
